Cindy (Stein) Gershen opened the original Sunrise Cafe & Bakery on South California Blvd. in Walnut Creek in 1981, baking her own breads and pastries, and is still the owner today. A family business, her son, Joe Stein, is the general manager.
Sunrise Bistro & Catering not only serves comfort food "like Mom used to make," but under Cindy's guidance is leading the way in how restaurants can make their food delicious and healthy for you! We use no hydrogenated oils (trans-fats) or high-fructose corn syrup in our recipes. We use fresh ingredients and salt sparingly to let you decide how much you want to have! We bake our own breads, pastries and desserts, along with preparing our own jam, berry compote, and salsa from scratch. You can enjoy our breakfast potatoes or potato salad, but we also offer other healthier options, such as brown rice or sweet potatoes. At Sunrise you are free to make your own choices for your best well-being!
Cindy has become a well-known and respected advocate for healthy living. Having lost and kept off over 90 pounds for more than eight years, her passion is to take the lessons of healthy diet and exercise and then condense that information into simple, practical solutions that people can use everyday. She often speaks to local businesses and organizations to share her tips for healthy eating and its effects on productivity in the workplace/school, occasionally including cooking demonstrations. If you are interested in further information or possible speaking engagements, please call (925) 930-6323 and Angie will be happy to assist you.
We have recently remodeled our Sunrise Bistro and are now open for dinners. The Bistro is located in the Main Street Plaza on Botelho Drive. We are offering our Cuz'nz BBQ menu for lunch and dinner. We've also added a full bar with flat screen TV! Our Banquet Room can be reserved for private parties of 15 to 40 guests. And, of course, you can still enjoy outdoor dining on our patio.
Many of our customers have been asking what happened to our location at 1355 S. California - formerly our Sunrise Cafe that then became Cuz'nz BBQ. We decided not to renew our lease there so that we could provide a better venue for our BBQ customers - table service with more seating, plus bar, in addition to more parking and proximity to downtown attractions. This move enabled us to open the Bistro for dinner and offer your favorite Bistro menu items for dinner as well.
Sunrise Catering prepares everything from cold buffets and box lunches to full-scale dinners and hors d'oeuvre receptions. We also offer outstanding breakfasts - hot or coldÑdelivered to your office or event. We deliver within the Tri-Valley area, and will go anywhere in the Bay Area under appropriate circumstances.
By popular demand, we have also included BBQ in our catering repertoire! As with most of our catering, you can order BBQ menu items a la Carte or full meals for 15 or more guests, including staffing if desired. (Smaller orders can be placed directly with the Bistro.)
We are preferred caterers for the Lesher Regional Center for the Arts, the Gardens at Heather Farm, the Veterans Memorial in Lafayette, and Temple Isaiah, among other venues.
